Travel insurance should be selected against the actual itinerary, not the destination name. Policy language, maximum altitude and authorization procedures matter more than a generic adventure label.
Match the covered activity
Tell the insurer the maximum sleeping and walking altitude, whether a guide is used, the route remoteness and any planned activity. Obtain written confirmation when policy wording is unclear.
Understand evacuation
Check medical evacuation, ground transport, helicopter use where medically necessary, hospital treatment and repatriation. Learn who must authorize an evacuation, what evidence is needed and whether you must pay first.
Cover the wider trip
Trip cancellation, interruption, missed connections, weather delay, baggage and pre-existing-condition terms may be relevant. Save the policy, emergency number and certificate offline and give a copy to an emergency contact.
Decision checklist
- Maximum altitude exceeds the route.
- Evacuation authorization is understood.
- Pre-existing-condition rules were disclosed.
- Policy and emergency contacts are available offline.
Turn your shortlist into a written quote
Compare the daily itinerary and accommodation basis before comparing totals. Ask for a cost breakdown covering transport, rooms, meals, permits, guiding and optional extras, with exclusions shown separately.
- Tell us your preferred month, group size, walking experience and room preference.
- Ask which seasonal conditions could change the route, journey time or accommodation choice.
- Confirm supplier holds and their expiry before accepting. A published departure date is not a reserved room or seat.
- Read the deposit, balance deadline and cancellation terms before paying. Allow time for supplier and permit checks; the team will confirm the booking timeline for your route.
